About the Game
A fusion of card-based RPGs and Adventure games, “Black Book” is a haunting tale of a young sorceress, who gave her life to serve the dark forces. Dive into the cold, yet alluring world of Slavic folktales - and uncover the secrets that hide in the darkness.
A young girl named Vasilisa, destined to become a witch, decides to throw her fate away and marry her beloved - but that dream is shattered when her betrothed dies under mysterious circumstances.
Aching for her lost love, Vasilisa seeks out the Black Book - a demonic artifact, said to be powerful enough to grant any wish to the one who uncovers all 7 of its seals. Join Vasilisa in her adventures across the rural countryside, as she solves the woes of common folk by confronting demons and performing exorcisms.
Narrative is based on Bailichkas, which are short stories about an allegedly true event of meeting with spirits and demons.
As with previous project, our game features a narrative based on authentic folklore. In this game we are focusing on Russian myths. We are being consulted by Konstantin Shumov, a scientific expert in this field, ehtnographist and collector of bailichkas. We are continuing our work with Perm Museum of Local Lore, and the game will feature maps based on XIXth century maps of Cherdyn' District that we've found in the archives. Several buildings that are featured in the game are based on historical prototypes that are preserved in Architectural and ethnographic museum Khokhlovka and in Museum of History of Salt in Solikamsk.
Black Book once again features folk melodies arranged by Mikhail Shvachko and choral music performed by Perm Krai College of Arts and Culture.
The game's soundtrack is deeply influenced by authentic Komi-Permian and Russian melodies, utilizing traditional instruments to add depth and cultural richness. Notably, choral performances such as "Small Cuckoo" and "Little Pine Tree", recorded by the Perm Krai College of Arts and Culture, are seamlessly integrated into the game's soundscape, further enhancing the immersive and authentic experience. Music tracks from the soundtrack can be found on Bandcamp and the full OST is available on Steam.
